Fighting some soreness, I managed to only get about 19 miles in this week. My long run on Saturday was through the pouring rain on a very muddy trail. Every. Single. Stabilizing muscle I own hurts at the moment. The medium run on Sunday was enough to convince me that this Long/Medium dyad that will make up my weekends for the next 24 weeks is going to hurt like hell. I really have to go get a consult on shoes later this week as well, since I think my road shoes are failing me.
Essentially…here’s what my training program looks like:
Monday: off, Tuesday: short run, Wednesday: medium run, Thursday: short run, Friday: off, Saturday: LONG run, Sunday: medium ‘recovery’ run. The Sunday run is designed to get me used to being on my feet for mile after mile after mile.
For many years now I've left a trail of flecks across the Internet. Just begun novels; explorations of culture, music, writing, food, the future, mountains, long distances, shallow oceans, deep canyons, oddly-composed music, even more oddly-constructed poetry, impassioned editorials, strident analysis, and a slew of images, sounds, and scribbles. Most of this has passed into the aether, waiting only for some semi-sentient algorithm to pull it from obscurity twenty years hence. In the meantime, there is this lodestone, gathering what it can.

Wow. Reading that training schedule I’m tired for you already. Never running longer than the distance of a parking space to a Nordstrom’s sale I’m hardly one to comment on what you do for your birthday. However, as I am a Gemini and prone to distractions which can lead to vast time rifts (or is that the burgeoning of Swiss cheese brains?) maybe I can offer a suggestion? Perhaps, in addition to a ridiculous amount of training (seriously…I won’t even DRIVE 50 miles!) you need to a mental diversion…such as juggling. Your focus will be on the objects (machetes, fruit, bowling pins) rather than on time or miles. One major drawback…if you drop the object you have to return to the point of the drop…which could add up to more mileage. Wonder what would the transponder do with that? Perhaps leave well enough alone and if you won’t reconsider the Caribbean suggestions being offered by more sane people, then perhaps save this for your 45th? Am booking my flight to San Fran now.
