Last long run before TNF

TAGS: None

Despite my rather ludicrous decision to run Catoctin earlier in the month, I felt I had to get another long run in before the 6th. Recently bereft of any trail support, I had to pick a distance and a place where I could reasonably resupply.  I settled for 22 miles at Manassas.  First and Second Manassas combined offers an 11 mile loop with a nice mixture of grass, crushed rocks, dirt, shade, sun, hills, and valleys.  So…parking at the info center meant that I could resupply after 11 miles with no difficulty at all, and still not find myself getting bored out of my mind.

The first 11 miles were fast, fast, and too fast.  As in 8:34 pace which is simply stupid.  I had a good chat with a couple of women coming off of a 16 miler as I refilled and started out on the second 11 miles.  They were having a good day and we talked about the joys of running across nice soft (mostly) ground.

The second 11 simply sucked.  Don’t know why, but they were not fun – at all.  I did the entire 22 miles at an averaged pace of 10:13.  Again…way too fast.  I’m sure I’ll calm down again before TNF, and if not, I’ll get a cold reminder of Catoctin when I suddenly start wishing I were dead.

    Peter,

Good luck at your 50 miler on the 6th. I can’t wait for that write up! Do very little this week if anything. I think the saying goes something like, “At this point, you can only over do, you can’t under do,” or something like that.

    I hear that, AJ.

I’m planning on two very small runs this week…just enough to remind me how everything works. Other than that just stretching.

    WoooHoo…

    Thanks for your post!
